Ms Joann Villeneuve named
Canadian Coasters Honourary Chairman
On the occasion this year of The Canadian Coasters 50th anniversary, Coasters Wagonmaster Fraser Field is pleased to announce that Ms Joann Villeneuve, wife of the late legendary Gilles Villeneuve and mother of World F1 Champion Jacques Villeneuve, has agreed to lend her name and support as Honourary Chairman of the 2017 Coast to Coast Tour.
“This is an historic first for our organization”, commented Fraser Field, “and of particular significance as Canada’s Grand Prix also marks this year its 50th anniversary, all of which takes place within the broader celebratory context of Canada’s 150th birthday.”
Joann Villeneuve was born in Winsted, Connecticut, and moved very young to Québec as a member of a large family. At 16, she met Gilles and the two married three years later in 1970. Jacques was born in 1971 and two years later, Melanie followed. Joann also has another daughter, Jessica, born later on in life.
For over four decades, Joann accompanied and assisted both Gilles and Jacques on every imaginable racing circuit around the world, including in Formula One, Formula Atlantic, NASCAR, Indy, drag racing, etc. Throughout that period, she became an engaged and passionate witness to the evolution of all forms of racing and is regarded as an expert in this field. She has often been referred to as Canada’s First Lady of Racing by the media.
She is currently Chairman of the Board of the Villeneuve Automotive Museum, a unique international project currently being developed out of Montreal. She is delighted to be involved with The Coasters, “a fabulous organization of great people from all walks of life and every part of our nation, united in their passion for showcasing our automotive heritage—which is exactly the mission of our planned Museum”, she added.
